Mrs. Valli Arun,
President - Valingro has been inducted in Tamil Isai Sangam Board. Mrs.
Arun’s wide interest in Traditional Indian Music, Dance & Arts will
enhance the developments in the Tamil Isai Sangam. Mrs. Arun’s vision
will focus on creating value addition towards expanding and promoting
the Sangam’s activities.
Tamil Isai Sangam is a music association started to promote pure form of
ancient Tamil music popularly known as Tamil Isai throughout Tamil Nadu.
It was founded in Chennai in 1943 by Raja Sir Annamalai Chettiar towards
his vision to promote Tamil music across all parts of Tamil Nadu. From
1943-1995, Dr. M. A. Chidambaram had been the Secretary of the
association. He was very much involved in having every function to start
& conclude as per the desired schedule. Under the able guidance of Dr.
M. A. Chidambaram, Dr. A. C. Muthiah became the Secretary of the
Association from 1995 and is very instrumental in developing the
activities of the Tamil Isai Sangam and Tamil Music College.
In January 1944, The Tamil Music College was started by the Tamil Isai
Sangam. Tamil Music College has various Courses in Instrumental music (Nathasvaram,
Thavil, Veenai, Violin & Miruthangam) & Bharatha Natyam. Bachelor of
Music (B. Music) & Master of Music (M. Music) are the major Courses at
Tamil Music College. One Year Music Teacher Courses are also being
conducted at the Tamil Music College. “Pann” research is also being
carried over at the Tamil Music College from 1949.
With the aim of spreading Tamil Isai, Tamil Isai Festival is being
organized for 12 days during the month of December every year, eminent
Musicians & Music Scholars perform each day. A prominent & outstanding
Musician is chosen every year and honoured on the first day of the music
festival with the tile “Isaiperaringar”, Trophy (Porpathakkam) & Cash
Prize (Ponmudi).
